Job Summary:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing end-to-end mining and processing operations of bentonite, clay, and ball clay. The role focuses on safe excavation, quality control, production planning, moisture management, blending, and dispatch while ensuring compliance with statutory mining and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Mining & Production Operations:

• Plan and supervise open-cast mining operations for bentonite, clay, and ball clay

• Manage excavation, selective mining, stacking, blending, and raw material handling

• Control stripping ratio and optimize mine planning for consistent grade and quality

• Oversee drying, crushing, screening, and grinding operations (where applicable)

• Ensure proper stockyard management and FIFO practices.

Quality & Process Control:

• Maintain mineral quality parameters such as moisture, swelling index, plasticity, particle size, and LOI

• Coordinate with laboratory teams for regular sampling and testing

• Ensure grade-wise segregation and customer-specific blending

• Implement SOPs for handling different clay varieties

Safety, Compliance & Environment:

• Ensure compliance with DGMS, IBM, MoEF&CC, SPCB, and local mining regulations

• Implement mine safety systems, PPE usage, and regular safety training

• Manage environmental controls related to dust suppression, water spraying, and reclamation

• Handle statutory inspections, returns, and documentation

Equipment, Maintenance & Manpower:

• Manage HEMM, excavators, loaders, dumpers, dryers, crushers, and screening plants

• Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance to minimise downtime

• Lead and supervise mine staff, supervisors, operators, and contractors

• Control fuel, spares, and consumables costs.

Logistics & Dispatch:

• Plan dispatches based on production schedules and customer requirements

• Coordinate with transporters and warehouses for timely delivery

• Ensure correct loading, weighment, and documentation

Cost Control & Reporting:

• Monitor production costs and implement cost-reduction initiatives

• Prepare daily, monthly, and annual MIS reports

• Support budgeting and capex planning for mine expansion

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Geology

• 10–20 years of experience in bentonite, clay, ball clay, or industrial minerals mining

• Strong knowledge of open-cast mining methods and selective mining techniques

• Hands-on experience in clay processing and quality control

• Thorough understanding of Indian mining and environmental laws
